Serious upgrade from KitchenAid soda stream – The kitchenaid soda stream maker is no longer being made and I replaced the internals on that unit once. I just got this puppy and really love it. Very elegant, purely mechanical and works nicely with aftermarket CO2 adapters for use with home brew full sized bottles.

A real step up from SodaStream for power users – I use this thing pretty much every day. We drink a lot of sparkling water at our house, both plain and lightly flavored with Torani raspberry syrup. Having used a SodaStream unit for years, I had long had issues with water leakage and, more annoyingly, with it running out of steam while ¼ of the CO2 bottle was still left. This is because that SodaStream model relies on gas pressure to maintain a seal, so as the gas cylinder’s pressure drops, the unit will no longer seal properly.

Love the look of this carbonator on my counter – Although this Aarke carbonator is pricey compared to the Sodastream models, it is so much nicer! It is extremely well made, sturdy and a bit heavy so it doesn’t slide around on the counter, and it looks great, kind of retro looking. It does make a bit of noise when you use it, but it’s only for a few seconds so not a big deal. It carbonates a lot more than the Sodastream it replaced. One other bonus for me which may not matter to some people, is it fits under my cabinets even when it’s in use. My old Sodastream fit there also, but had to be pulled out every time I used it because the button was on the top. The Aarke has the lever in front that you push down. Beautiful design. Well worth the extra money.
