Nice Slow Cooker – I own two other slow cookers. I bought this one because it has a 6qt capacity and temperature probe. Several pluses on the design: First there are steam holes in the lid. Without these steam holes you will get a bubbling at the edge of the lid as the steam equalizes with the ambient air. My other two slow cookers do not have steam holes in the lid and it’s annoying. As the steam escapes, there is a slight noise and it can get a little messy. The design and size of the bowl are nice for accommodating a medium sized roast. Round slow cookers have a problem with this. The temperature probe can be inserted in four different places. Some of the other slow cookers only have one opening for their temperature probe, which can be a problem. Even if you are not using the temperature probe for a programmed cook, you can use the temperature probe to monitor the temperature of what you are cooking. I have done this when making soups. If the temperature gets too high, you can manually turn it down. As I just bought this slow cooker I cannot comment on its longevity. I can say that the cooker looks like it is constructed well. Lastly I haven’t had to travel with this, but another reason why I bought this model was the locking lid. I have to be extremely careful when transporting my other slow cookers to some event, as spilling is always a concern.

Highly Recommended. – Ok, so over all this is a good slow cooker, the only thing is the warmer is only between around 161-165 the most, in order for 180 it needs to be on low setting, high only up to 200 max, wish it could gone a bit higher, I used it for making bone broth, used prog bring the temp up to max; 200. Then kept it on warm, it actually lasted about 24 hours before shut off by itself, which I thought it was great, the bone broth came out really nice and clear, I then use a separater to go get rip off the oil, try the broth, nice and fresh, then turn it off a few minutes, turn it back on, for another 24 hours, the finished product was great, do over all is a really good slow cooker, ( the old one we had were only able to kept it on for about 8-9 hours, which is not much of a slow cook….. )

3 heat settings, does not run too hot – The Amazon listing and the included instructions do not make it clear that the lid lock is to be used ONLY for transporting filled cooker. DO NOT use it during cooking!! It creates pressure that could break the glass lid. Okay. That said, this is a great cooker. I love the Low-Med-High choices, and it doesn’t run too hot and boil the cr*p out of your food on low like some others. It has a probe thermometer that goes through a little hole in the lid to monitor the temp of your food, and you can preset it to turn to warm at a certain temp. It also has a little divot in the edge of the crock, and a rubber gasket on the lid, that permits you to use your own probe thermometer so you can set an alert when the food reaches a certain temperature. I haven’t yet used the sous vide function. It is a little complicated to do these settings, and you’ll need the booklet on hand when you do it. One thing I don’t love, is that there is no light showing when it is “on”. After setting the temp and time, the screen goes dark. I would prefer if the screen, or at least an indicator light, stayed on during the whole cooking cycle, so I can know at a glance that it is still on. Secondly, the white painted word is already starting to wear off of the “cancel” button. I’ve only had it 6 months, and used it maybe 5-6 times. Not a good sign.

Temperature control is a godsend! – I have not been much of a fan of slow cookers although I have always liked the concept. At my altitude, water boils at 206 degrees and every slow cooker would end up furiously boiling even on the low setting. That pretty well ruins foods you want to cook at a low simmer for a long time. I thought I’d give this one a try since it allows you to program the temperature and hold it there for many hours. What a godsend! Works great! So far I’ve made yogurt, bbq wings, bbq shredded beef and the braised pork carnitas recipe that is one of the just 2 recipes included in the manual. All turned out delicious! There are many more things I want to try with this cooker, including the sous vide method. Also want to try tempering chocolate with this thing. Maybe keeping water at temp and putting the chocolate in the warm water in a plastic bag.
