Be sure and read before buying. – I had the old smaller version for 25 years – worked awesome. Really only got rid of that one because of the worry of something electrical being that old – I used it a ton. Now I bought this one – definitely bigger, but there’s the issue. Forget other reviews talking about turkeys – I would say nothing over 10lbs for sure. Same if you wanted to do 2 chickens, no more than 5lbs each if you are doing 2. The reason is the width of the inside is 12″, however the width between the removable plates that the poultry goes on is 10.5″ on the inside. To put this in perspective I bought a 12.2 lbs turkey – I know, bigger than it says – but thought I could squeeze it in there….no chance. A 12lbs turkey was about FOUR INCHES too long. That’s what I am saying it’s the 10 and 10 rule. 10 inches wide, no more than a 10lb turkey. I recommend taking a piece of string that is 10″ long to the store so you can measure whatever it is you will throw in there. Now having said all this it works wonders on a 6.5lbs chicken. But with the additional size I don’t know why they didn’t go even larger because it’s not easy finding a turkey that small. If they made it 5″ wider it could fit up to a common 13lbs turkey size. Instead make sure that turkey is in single digits for lbs and if 2 chickens check their combined width to be less than 10 inches also (and remember you will need space in between the chickens to make sure it cooks the skin correctly).

Much better than the original version – So after having my original rotisserie for about 10 years, the heating element final gave out. We usually do a chicken once a week and it always came out great: My biggest gripes were:

Makes a great turkey breast – I made a bourbon turkey and it took the last time and it was absolutely delicious and juicy

Temperature Questions, ETc – I inserted the temp probe with no food inside. After 20 minutes the temp was 376 F. 30 Minutes 376 F. 40 Minutes varied between 379 – 382 F. The temp seems fairly stable despite the fact the element is always on. If you have cold meat, chicken, etc., inside the temperature will probably vary. But it does appear you can preheat. I have no idea how this effects their projected cooking times. I have assumed they over estimate the cooking times so someone doesn’t get poisoned. I wish the rotessieer arms were slightly closer together. It would make it much easier and allow more products. Over all I am happy with it. After only two uses it has been easy to clean.

I wanted this to be so good – but it just hasn’t worked out. – The controls on the unit allow you to toggle between (3) operations: normal use (motor running and heat on), motor stopped but heat on (for searing), and motor on but no heat (Have no idea what this is useful for). Notice that nowhere did I say you could set the temperature. Nope. The heat is either on or off. I do think there are two distances you can place your food from the heat – but one seems too close and the other seems ‘normal.’ What have I noticed? It cooks too fast. I want the outside to just be developing a little char when the center is medium. Instead, what happens is that whole thing is done (and you risk overcooking) FAR sooner than the outside takes to develop a little color. I’ve experimented a little with searing the meat by pausing the motor on each side. Which brings me to my next point – don’t get the idea that you can set this machine and then go do laundry. You really can’t leave this machine unattended for more than 10-12 minutes! You need to be poking it with a meat thermometer and searing the sides. My last option is to leave it in the refrigerator until ready to cook so that the internal temp is cold. Then hopefully that will allow the outside to develop color/flavor. Super disappointed.
