Quality vacuum seal, difficult hand pump. – A little background into how I am using these bags; I recently got really into coffee and somewhere along the line I couldn’t pass up any coffee I found that sounded even remotely interesting leading me to buy somewhere around 3 months of coffee assuming 2-3 cups a day. Thus my review is NOT ON HOW GOOD THESE ARE FOR SOUS VIDE COOKING, BUT THE QUALITY OF THE VACUUM SEAL. With that much coffee (although I did not have it all at the time of purchase) some of my coffee was bound to go stale. Enter ‘coffee afficionado’ and undoubtedly an expert, Hoffman. He swears that freezing coffee (assuming you have the right gear) tastes virtually no different than fresh. So he recommends vacuum sealed containers like mason jars, however my freezer is shared and we already do plenty of cooking so there is no room for such a thing. After looking around a bit, I find these sous vide bags. I purchase them in a rush to have anything to vacuum seal my coffee beans in and when they arrive I immediately divvy up my coffee into small doses, even for the larger bag sizes. So tl;dr:

Great purchase for food storage – I use these bags to better store frozen food in my freezer. I can buy a few pounds of meet, seperate, store and freeze it in one of these vacuum bags, and it still is like fresh when I later thaw it for cooking. Normal ziplock bags always resulted in freezer burn. I sanitize the bag and air dry, and its ready to go again. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of them and they really do a great job at preserving food. Also works great for non-frozen food, like preserving brown sugar.

Once you understand how to get the air out, these work well. – New to sous vide so seemed interesting to have reusable sous vide bags. These are decent bags, heavy duty and seal well. But I can see now sous vide bags shouldn’t be reused. No matter how well you clean them (not easy) they still aren’t sanitary. That said these are still good bags.

Glad I Found Them – So many years ago, this type of saver bag was in the stores, and then it was no longer. I had a thought that maybe I could fint it on Amazon. My storage bowls take up too much space in my freezer. These are perfect and work well. The price is very fair and I will probably continue buying more.

Okay, but not worth reordering – These bags are okay for the price. The vacuum pump broke within 20 uses. The rubber gasket came away from the plunger inside so now I have to use my other hand vacuum pump. The bags themselves are thick and of decent quality however five of the bags so far have been trashed because the vacuum valve stopped functioning. They are also quite a PITA to clean because of the small folds and nature of plastic in general. I find myself swearing at them when cleaning them in the sink, usually on the second round of cleaning because I missed a tiny bit of food in the first round.
